Harraseeket Philosophy

Harraseeket Philosophy

We believe that children benefit from the support of family-like groupings of peers and teachers, which is why children are with the same group of children and same teacher for most of the day. Significant classroom time is devoted to establishing a safe and trusting learning community. The self-contained classroom setting allows for the recognition, acceptance and celebration of individual and group accomplishments. Children feel connected in a classroom structured as a community.

We also believe that children are eager learners and are naturally curious about many things. Our goal is to help students see themselves as lifelong learners. As a result, the curriculum is integrated, allowing teachers to weave key themes throughout the day and to encourage students to get excited about seeing the connections between the subjects they are learning. Fostering childrenís interests helps them see themselves as learners.
It is also important to help children become organized in their schoolwork. Teachers help children understand their responsibilities as students by devoting instructional time to teaching study skills and by assigning nightly homework.
And finally we believe that children love to share what they have learned. It is also important for students to develop the self-confidence to share in front of an audience. Assemblies are held every other week and classrooms take turns presenting what they have learned. Families are invited to attend these celebrations of learning. On alternate Fridays, Harraseeket students have Free Friday with Soule.
